We're so excited to welcome Motivo Scar Care to The 2nd Co. family! This is a brand with a powerful mission, born from a personal journey. We sat down with the founder, Jadis Montijo, to learn more about the story behind the brand and his innovative approach to scar care.


 

The Founding Story

The 2nd Co.: Can you tell our readers a little bit about the personal journey that led you to create the brand?

Jadis Montijo: Back in 2018, I had a consultation with Dr. Keith for top surgery. After the procedure, the recommended aftercare was to wear scar care products. I tried a few different brands but had varying negative experiences with all of them. Eventually, I stopped using them, which led to my scars stretching, becoming keloided, and very painful. I ended up needing a second surgery, a scar revision, and once again the aftercare was to use scar care products.

The 2nd Co.: What was the specific moment you realized that there was a need for a new and different approach to scar care?

Jadis Montijo: The moment I realized something had to change was during that scar revision recovery, when I was told I had to try to use these products again, which failed me the first time. I told Dr. Keith about my concerns, and he confirmed that many patients struggled with the same issues. I knew I didn’t want to keep going in circles; something better needed to exist.

The 2nd Co.: You co-founded the brand with a board-certified plastic surgeon, Dr. Jonathan Keith. How has that collaboration of patient experience and medical expertise shaped the products and the brand's philosophy?

Jadis Montijo: Partnering with Dr. Keith shaped the brand from two perspectives: the surgeon who performs the procedure and the patient who lives with the scar. Together, we understand the full process: surgery, recovery, and the mental and emotional toll. That’s what drives our products and philosophy: helping people heal in a way that works for both body and mind.


 

About the Products

The 2nd Co.: For our customers who are new to your brand, could you introduce us to your flagship products? What makes them stand out from other scar care solutions on the market?

Jadis Montijo: Our flagship product is scar tape. It’s the only scar tape on the market available in multiple skin tones, making it discreet while protecting scars. It’s also water-resistant, so it stays on through showers, sweat, and workouts for 3-5 days. Our topicals go beyond what’s currently out there. Unlike other brands that use alcohols, onion extract, or heavy silicones which don’t do your skin any favors, we’ve formulated with ingredients that support scar healing and long-term skin health.

The 2nd Co.: Your products are described as inclusive and for all skin types, this is an incredibly important factor for us when choosing brand partners. Could you elaborate on what that means to you and why it's a core tenet of your brand?

Jadis Montijo: Inclusivity has always been core to us. For decades, scar tape only came in one "skin tone," which left most people feeling overlooked. Scars can already cause stress and insecurity, so covering them with something that doesn’t match only makes it worse. Our products are made for all skin types and tones, because scars don’t discriminate and neither should the products that treat them.

The 2nd Co.: What are some of the key ingredients in your products, and how do they contribute to the healing process?

Jadis Montijo: Key ingredients in our topicals include:

  • Silver: Fights bacteria and supports a clean healing environment.

  • Hyaluronic Acid: Deeply hydrates new skin and prevents cracking.

  • Niacinamide: Evens tone and reduces redness.

  • Vitamin E: Improves elasticity and supports repair.

  • Aloe Vera: Soothes irritation and calms sensitive scar tissue.


 

Brand Mission and Vision

The 2nd Co.: What do you see as the future of men's personal care, and how does Motivo Scar Care fit into that vision?

Jadis Montijo: There’s a stigma that men should "wear their scars proudly." And there’s nothing wrong with that; scars can absolutely be a badge of honor. But there’s more to it than appearance. That new skin is fragile and prone to issues like sun damage. It can also be physically uncomfortable; scars often hurt because nerves are still healing, collagen is tightening, and the tissue is more sensitive than normal skin. Taking care of a scar isn’t about vanity; it’s about strength and health. Protecting your skin helps prevent pain, irritation, and long-term complications, so you can keep moving forward at your best.
